Our Work

Everything has a story worth sharing and a voice to be heard. We are committed to being a voice for both people and place. This is how we Bear Witness to the constantly changing landscape around us and within us.

It started with a podcast and has grown to include a variety of media. Check out some of the projects below.

Rainbows in the Wilderness: Coming Soon

Rural America has long been a space where Queer folks can anticipate danger and discrimination. Our nation's wilderness areas involve the same hazards. That's why Boundary Waters Outfitter, Jason Zabokrtsky, decided to guide a paddle trip exclusively for Queer identifying participants.

This short Documentary follows a group of 9 LGBTQ+ strangers into the far northern wilderness in search of adventure, safety and belonging. Through painful confrontations with the landscape and self doubt, each individual on this journey encounters beauty and belonging in the backcountry.

Beyond the Canoe: A WTIP and Legacy Feature

From May to November, canoeing is the talk of the North Shore and the Boundary Waters area. Rightfully so, as the region is in the heart of canoe country.

The opportunities for other outdoor recreation in Cook County and the Lake Superior region are ample. With that in mind, WTIP is launching a new series to explore some of these forms to enjoy the outdoors that extend past the gunnels of a canoe.

Beyond the Canoe: Outdoor Recreation on the North Shore is supported in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
